30/30 Poetry Challenge – WXW -Day 8

I dare not imagine

today
my imagination
will not even
take me as far
as this sheet of paper

yet my grandmother
who normally showed no artistic flair
tipped two small chairs
harnessed a rocking horse
and led us to the north pole

in her youth
she sang to young men
bid Johnny God-speed
as he marched away
while handing feathers to the more reluctant

now she dares not imagine
lest she admit
where and what she sung them to
and worst of all remember
that Johnny did not come marching home
